O.W.L.S.
( Outdoor Wildlife Learning Site)
"In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what
we understand, we will understand only what we are taught"
-Baba Dioum

The goal of the O.W.L.S. is to provide people with the opportunity to learn
about nature and wildlife in an outdoor, hands-on setting. It is designed
to be self-guided, via signs and brochures, so that people can see everything at
their own pace. It will be designed in a way for people to learn without realizing
that they are learning. Students, teachers, children, parents, office workers and
even farmers will be able to gain knowledge from the O.W.L.S. site, including:
what type of wildlife is in the area and how to feed, shelter and attract it and
make it want to stay; how to build a birdhouse; how to design a butterfly
garden and what to plant there; or how to stop erosion in the field. Visitors
would be able to apply the things they learn to their own home and work environments.

The O.W.L.S. site at the Sandsage Bison Range and Wildlife Area will be designed
to expose visitors to the specific ecology of Finney County and Western Kansas,
and how to protect it.
